Hi everyone! I’m Anja from Germany and this is my blog about my year as an au pair in the suburbs of NYC!
To briefly introduce myself: I’m 18 years old, I live in the North of Germany, I love to travel and I’ve just got my Abitur (A-levels, graduation, whatever) – after studying for 12 years it’s time to explore, to travel, and to live!
Last year I decided that I wanted to be an au pair in the USA with Cultural Care AuPair. In October 2015 I completed my application and my matching process began. I had some early matches with families I didn’t feel comfortable with until I matched with a family in early January 2016. That family just felt right and I hoped that they would choose me as their new au pair – and they did! I’ll never forget the moment when they said: “We would be very happy if you would be our au pair next year.”
So from August 2016 I’m going to be an au pair in my host family in a suburb located in the Northeast of NYC. With the days until departure (08/08/2016) getting fewer I’m getting more and more excited!
Now I’m an AuPair in my amazing host family in a suburb located in the Northeast of NYC!

Hallo ihr Lieben!
Ich bin Anja aus Deutschland und das hier ist mein Blog über mein Jahr als AuPair in einem Vorort von New York City!
Um mich einmal kurz vorzustellen:
Ich bin 18 Jahre alt, lebe im Norden von Deutschland, ich liebe es zu reisen und ich habe gerade mein Abitur in der Tasche – nach 12 Jahren Schule und Lernen ist es jetzt an der Zeit etwas zu erleben, zu entdecken und einfach zu leben!
Letztes Jahr habe ich mich entschieden, dass ich ein AuPair-Jahr in den USA mit Cultural Care (so heißt meine Organisation) nach dem Abitur machen möchte. Im Oktober 2015 habe ich dann meine Bewerbung fertiggestellt und der sogenannte “Matching-Process” begann (die Suche nach einer passenden Gastfamilie). Ich hatte ein paar frühe “matches” mit einigen Familien, mit denen ich mich aber nicht ganz wohlgefühlt habe, bis ich dann im Januar 2016 mit meiner Gastfamilie “matchte”. Diese Familie hat sich einfach richtig angefühlt und ich hoffte, dass sie mich als ihr AuPair auswählen würden – und sie haben mich letztendlich gewählt!!! Ich werde nie den Moment vergessen, als sie sagten: “Wir würden uns sehr freuen, wenn du nächstes Jahr unser AuPair werden würdest.”
Seit dem 08. August 2016 lebe ich nun in einem Vorort von NYC und habe hier schon so viel erlebt, wie ich es mir nie erträumt hätte!
